Description
I decided to take up the trumpet recently, with predictable results for me-- a basement full of horns. Now it’s a new year, things are opening up, I need money and space— so some horns are going up on the auction block. Buy them before I change my mind again! Here’s a CONN model 40B ‘VOCABELL’ TRUMPET, from the 1930s (serial # is 30309X), the model 40A cornet looks almost the same. The ultimate “pea shooter” wrap trumpet ever, this Art Deco masterpiece has the famous rimless “Vocabell” design (don’t worry about it being too fragile, you could almost chop onions with the bell edge), renowned for its singing upper register. This was a ‘Connstellation’-level horn, one of their best. This one is an early model, with very simple engraving that would get more elaborate on later models. The recessed water keys are working fine, the valves are swift, compression is good for an 80+ year old horn (I use Yamaha ‘Vintage’ valve oil, but thicker oils are available). I spent good money on it to get it working well but I just don’t play it enough, mostly because of the beefy valve springs — if you’re a young whippersnapper with strong hands, this could be your jam. Low start of TWO HUNDRED NINETY SEVEN DAMN U.S. DOLLARS, packed securely in a miscellaneous old case (this is a long horn) and then padded to heck in a box. Shipping is a flat FORTY-THREE DOLLARS in the CONUS.
THE FINE PRINT:
NO RETURNS, this is an 80+ year old used instrument, not showroom fresh,
described as fairly as I can make it and take it (photos, that is). International shipping is via eBay GSP as far as I am concerned. Your use or non-use of sketchy dropbox reshippers is your business.
