Description
RICE DRUGS Drugstore ART DECO STORE FRONT Featuring Schraffts VALENTINE BOX CANDY BOXES. Rice’s was a drugstore in Pittsburg. Am thinking this photo was taken in the early 1940s??The back of the photo can be read in the second photo. Was taken by an A. Church. This is the original frame. It had been professionally framed, but the back was severely tattered. The red sticker that can be seen was on the original backing, but overall, it is quite striking.
Framed photo size is 10.5 x 8.5”. Print is glossy. There is no fading out in the lower left corner-but due to reflections. The photo has no cracks, bends, missing section/pieces, or stains. It has a slight amount of waviness when one looks closely.
It appears the drugstore is in some type of an enclosure like a mall. The photo has backlighting to bring attention to the window contents. It appears the store is just being opened as only chairs can be seen through the doors-no merchandise. Behind the name of the business “Rice Drugs“ is textured/frosted backlighted glass which was very popular in Art Deco designs. Note the industrial style hanging light.
