    Description

ULTRA RARE 1937 H.N. WHITE-KING LIBERTY MODEL 3B - LARGE BORE (.468") PROFESSIONAL Bb TRUMPET IN NEED OF A VALVE JOB AND RESTORATION
I have been playing horns for 65 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, producing custom finishes, and building custom horns for 54 years.
Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection.  During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so.
All my horns are gig ready...they have been completely disassembled, cleaned, valves are hand lapped and precision adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary, all slide tubes are hand lapped and polished, and then the horn is re-assembled and play tested.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED
For your consideration, here is an ultra rare Liberty Model 3B large bore trumpet produced for only a few months in 1937.  This 3B is the second (and last) true .468" large bore trumpet King ever built...the 1932 Artist Model 1051 was the first .468" large bore, but it only had a one year production run...and before anyone writes me an email: The Super 20 Symphony dual bore has a .468" lead pipe going into King's standard .458" horn body, therefore not a true .468" large bore.
I acquired this trumpet 15 years ago from the H.N. White-King Museum.
They were very transparent about the condition of the horn: "The valves are quite worn and will require a valve job (#1 is the worst, followed closely by #2, and #3 isn't too bad); the front main brace was pushed in against the bell and dented it; the trumpet had been refinished in the past with a very bad gold tinted lacquer job; there is hand wear to the 2nd and 3rd casings (see photo #8) as well as the top of the 3rd slide; the 2nd slide is missing its pull button; and lastly, the rolled bell rim has many tiny ripples/ flat spots as if someone used a small hammer in the past to straighten the rim?...however, the bell now sits perfectly flat on its rim."  Otherwise, the horn is pretty much straight without dents or major dings for that matter.  Better yet, there is no evidence of red rot inside the leadpipe.  For all intents and purposes, the trumpet does play, but the leaky valves don't allow this beast to reach its full potential.
Considering its incredible rarity, and being fully aware of its condition, I decided to purchase it for 5. and do a total restoration.  I removed the bell dent and reset the front main brace.  I added the correct pull button on to the 2nd slide, realigned the pinky hook, removed a few small dings, and then thoroughly cleaned the horn...that's as far as I ever got!  So, like an automotive shop, I have done the body work.  The trumpet now needs to head to the mechanical side of the shop for a valve job.  Lastly, over to the paint shop to have the lacquer stripped, horn polished, and new lacquer applied...I'm getting too old for this!  When finished, the new owner will have one of the rarest King trumpets ever produced.  I'm asking the same price I paid 15 years ago which when adjusted for inflation, equals 0. in today's dollars.  After eBay fees, I realize I will lose a lot of money, but this super rare horn deserves to live on, so my loss is your gain.
To read about this rare 3B, log on to the H.N. White Co. website, skip the introduction, click on trumpets, scroll down and click on "Liberty 2B" and the first listing discusses the 2B & 3B.  Click on the picture to view the actual 1937 ad which provides all the specifications for both models.  The 3B is a fairly lightweight horn weighing in at 2 lb.- 3 oz. and will absolutely sizzle with new valves.
Mechanically, this trumpet still functions well with regard to valve action and slide movement.  However, as discussed above, the trumpet's valves need to be re-plated.  Cosmetically, the main body issues have already been addressed, but the horn needs to lose its horrible lacquer and be completely refinished.
I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises".  So, bid with confidence as I think you'll find my feedback speaks for itself.
