Description
Skylark Pro Model Trumpet - Reconditioned - Original Case and #1 & #2 Mouthpiece Bore .456 - Serial# 25*These are very interesting horns and this is my first Skylark model with the nice bell engraving. 5" bell and A lock-out make these a very interesting build from this time period. I have had quite a few Lark model M4015's, M4014's and M4013's in silver, brass and with rose brass components. These horns were apparently manufactured from 1983 to 1989, all of these horns have had 3 digit serial numbers, the same body, caps and long water key, but almost all of the valves have been different. This horn and all the others I've had have played very well and I have no idea who helped the Chinese build these as this was during the factory build out period which eventually became the student brass take over of the market throughout the 90's. The newer model 4015's were very low end student horns, and similar to First Act and Borg models. These horns have very thick valve bodies, are built like a tank and play very well, I consider them collectible and must assume the Skylark is a later model than the Lark models I've had. Original case is very nice, horn also comes with the original #1 and #2 mouthpieces.
The 2nd valve pull tab is original but required soldering, there is plating wear in the handhold area and on the out side of the bell taper from the hand hold area to the bell logo which is very hard to get in pictures as the wear is very even and blends into the plating work. Plating is at 85% with the light wear showing on the bell taper and on the 2nd valve slide, everything is smooth 3rd slide moves well and caps thread nicely.
