Autograph Letter to Gabriel-Jean-Francois Baixe
Autograph letter from the inventor of photographic equipment who in 1893, together with his brother Auguste, developed the cinematographe, and then showed the first motion pictures using film projection in 1895. They also invented the Autochrome screen plate for color photography in 1903. 2 pp. 13 December, 1941. Letterhead of the Hotel des Ambassadeurs, Vichy. In French, addressed to Gabriel-Jean-Francois Baixe, President of the Académie du Var, effusively thanking him for the news of his unanimously voted election into the association. Creases, else fine.
From the collection of the Baixe's son, Jacques-Henri Baixe (1925 - 2001) who practiced underwater diving and later became a navy doctor specialising in diving medicine. He was also an avid collector of films: he created the Cinémathèque Mondiale de la Mer (World Film Library of the Sea), produced and directed films himself, as well as television broadcasts, and founded the Festival International du Film Maritimein Toulon.
