Hudson Maxim [1853 1927] was a prominent U.S inventor and chemist who invented a variety of explosives which included smokeless gunpowder. He was also the author of several books and is noted for his book titled Defenseless America, in which he pointed out the inferiority of the American defense system and the vulnerability of the country against attacks of foreign aggressors. He was referred to as ''the most versatile man in America'' by Thomas Edison and was the brother of Hiram Maxim who invented the Maxim gun and the uncle of Hiram Percy Maxim who invented the Maxim Silencer. Listed for auction is a [TLS] typed letter signed by Hudson Maxim on his personal letterhead and dated March 12, 1923. T
he letter has interesting content and is nicely signed ''Hudson Maxim'' in black fountain pen. The letter measures 8.25 x 11.00 inches, it has expected mail folds, trivial wrinkling/toning/edge wear otherwise it is in very good condition. The autograph is authentic, uncommon to obtain and it will be a desirable addition to any collection.
