    Description

Letter signed by Francis Hauksbee, writing on behalf of the Royal Society to William Mace regarding upkeep of dues. Dated 1757. Letter is handwritten, presumably dictated/secretarial with manuscript corrections (presumably by Hauksbee). Hauksbee has signed it himself at the end. Large sheet, folded over, with wax seal. Unfolded measures 14.5" x 12". Paper reinforcement has been added to side with address and seal, and on the side with the letter there is small rhombus shape of paper loss midsheet at edge.
Hauksbee was Clerk to the Royal Society for decades and now known for his early work on electricity.
