CUSTOM BUILT 1983 YAMAHA 6335S HYBRID MLBORE
(.460") PROFESSIONAL Bb TRUMPET ~
WITH A 5 3/4" RIMLESS COPRION BELL STEM AND FLARE ~ CUSTOM
BRUSHED FINISH WITH NEW LACQUER IN PRISTINE RESTORED CONDITION
I have been playing horns for 64 years...collecting and restoring vintage trumpets and cornets, producing custom finishes, and building custom horns for 53 years. Over the decades I amassed a vast trumpet/ cornet collection. During the past few years I have thinned out the herd and continue to do so.
All my horns are gig ready...they have been completely disassembled, cleaned, valves are hand lapped and precision adjusted & aligned with new corks & felts when necessary, all slide tubes are hand lapped and polished, and then the horn is re-assembled and play tested. Lastly, the trumpet is disinfected and boxed in order to provide a Covid free purchase.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE OTHER HORNS I HAVE LISTED
For your consideration, here is a custom built hybrid trumpet consisting of a 1983 Yamaha YTR-6335S horn body mated to a 5 3/4" rimless Coprion bell stem. This is one of my all-time favorite trumpets due in part to the vast tonal spectrum it can produce...a deep mouthpiece will darken the horn with amazing resonance, while a shallow lead mouthpiece turns it into a scream machine that will never crack a note. In 1983 the 6335 and 6310Z "Bobby Shew" were Yamaha's top-of-the-line offerings. This 6335S started life as a silver plated model (this is what the "S" denotes). The original owner wanted the silver plate removed and the bell replaced with a rimless 5 3/4" diameter Coprion stem and flare. I correctly use the trademark name "Coprion" as these bells are currently being built by a gentleman who acquired the original mandrels from Conn that were used to electroform both the Coprion (solid copper) and Electro "D" brass bells. The electroforming process sprays electrically charged copper (or brass) ions onto the mandrel until a final thickness of 40 thousandths of an inch is achieved. Mike Del Quadro, Gary Stoner, Josh Landress and others have built many horns using these copper bells, and I have built a few as well.
When I acquired the trumpet it was raw with perhaps 15% of the original silver plating still remaining in all the hard to get to nooks and crannies. I spent hours removing more of the silver to where maybe 2% remains (which I felt I could live with), gave the horn a modern brushed finish, and shot it with a coat of new lightly tinted gold lacquer to provide a maintenance free finish. A precision valve alignment, new felts, springs and corks completed its refurbishment.
This trumpet is a medium weight 2 lb. - 6.2 oz. horn that will accommodate virtually any music style and acoustic venue. Agile and efficient, and having an extensive range of tonal colors, this trumpet offers a consistent core of sound throughout all registers and dynamics, with a pitch center to match all its other outstanding performance characteristics. It easily matches and blends with other trumpets and trumpet players. The trumpet has a powerful sound, awesome projection, great depth of character, and excellent sonority in all registers. It is a free and open blowing horn with a rich tone, and loves to be piloted in the stratosphere where it develops a sophisticated brighter edge with complex overtones. This horn has superb intonation...the low register is not flat, and is very resonant. The 5th harmonic is great, and so is the upper register intonation. Slots are superb. Responsive and flexible, this professional hybrid makes an awesome "all around" horn, thus it shines playing pretty much any music style in pretty much any acoustic venue.
Mechanically, the horn is in superb condition with lightning fast valves that are without staining nor pitting, and exhibit near factory spec compression. All slides operate with buttery smoothness. Cosmetically, the trumpet is in pristine restored condition...no dents, dings nor previous repairs. I tend to be overly critical and as accurate as possible when describing my horns, so that no one receives any "surprises". So, bid with confidence as I think you'll find my feedback speaks for itself.
