Description
For sale is this Benge 5X trumpet. It is stamped Resno-Tempered Bell, custom built by E. Benge, Los Angelas, Calif. Serial number places it in 1973 time frame. It is stamped as a medium large bore (.460) Knowledge people say that the 5X bell is slightly more open blowing than the 3X bell. It is stamped 5 on the bell ferrel which connects to the valve block at the first valve.Overall it is very good condition with really good plating and no noticeable dings or dents. There is a small wear spot in the plating between the first and second valves where someone rested their thumb There are some spots of plating wear under the bell near the third valve where one would rest their finger while holding the horn, on the backside of the third valve, and near the finger ring on the third valve slide. There are a few spots of red rot developing on the lead pipe. None of them have come through and with proper care should not be a problem for quite some time. I bought this horn from Trent Austin at Austin Custom Brass several years ago and was advised of the spots on the leadpipe. He gave the same advice. There has been no change in its condition.
Compression sounds good and all slides pull smoothly especially the first and third slides Even the third valve slide dump tube pulls out properly. Valves show light wear and operate smoothly.
The horn plays good and is sure to be of interest to dedicated trumpet players.
There is no mouthpiece.
There was no case with it, so I purchased an inexpensive one to keep it in and for shipping.
No Returns.
